They have a strong sense of smell so anything smelly will get their attention. Chicken livers, night crawlers, and other fish are great bait options.

Use the Right Pencil

Using the right pencil when drawing is important. If you find that your picture is somewhat pale, it could be because your pencil is too hard. Avoid using a Number 2 (HB) pencil, as they are hard and not suitable for drawing. On the other hand, they are excellent for light shading. If you need dark shadows on your picture, you might want to use a B, 2B or 4B pencil.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

In 1979, the best-selling drawing classic “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” was published. The book contained drawing methods that were developed by Dr. Betty Edwards, which has been used to teach millions of people how to draw. Dr. Edwards believed that the different parts of the brain has specific functions that cause us to experience a shift from our normal way of thinking when we draw. Being able to intentionally and deliberately make this shift is crucial to learning how to draw from observation.

Aligning Facial Features

When you look at people, you tend to look at them straight-on. And when you transfer their features onto a canvas, you tend to make their features look level. However, if their head is at an angle, it will result in distortions in your drawing. The best way of addressing this is to sketch guidelines first to check if the features are aligned with the rest of the subject’s face. Once you have done that you can start working with drawing their picture.

Jacob Vanderwal Kent Michigan  Swing Techniques for Young Baseball Players

Becoming a good baseball player requires a lot of skill and practice. If you are having trouble hitting the ball, you are going to have to work on your swing technique. Here are a couple of tips you can use to develop your swing technique.

Stepping Out

Many baseball players have a problem with stepping out. Stepping out prevents the baseball bat from being in the hitting zone long enough to make contact with the ball, and it also hinders appropriate plate coverage. To overcome this problem, players must work on raising the back heel so that only the toes and balls of the feet are in contact with the ground. Doing so will make it difficult for the player to “step out”, and will help him strike the ball.

The other benefits of using this technique are:

Helps pivoting the back foot much easier, which in turn helps the hips explode on contact with the ball.

Weight transfer remains constant in the center of the posture, and does not overcompensate any other way.

Instead of lunging, the player can focus on rotating and pivoting on the center of gravity axis.
The technique also helps in shortening the stride.

Transitioning from T-Ball to Little League will require young players to understand that the swing starts in the downward plane and levels off high. Players will need to start their swing down because the shortest distance between the pitch and the “straight line” is down in the zone.

Jacob Vanderwal of Kent, Michigan is a college baseball player and hopes to make a career as a professional baseball player.
